Smart tv/ tv with smart stb

Hi all,
Thinking of buying a new tv for the bedroom. I have a budget of circa £5/600 and just wanted to gauge your expert opinions on either getting a smart tv or a normal tv with a blu ray player with "smart" functionality.
I've only got a standard aerial in the bedroom (no possibility of a sky feed) so would be SD for main, so would want BR and catch up via smart.
Does that make sense?
