Freesat TV FM distribution
Discussion
Hi all,
JUst in the middle of a multimedia rewire. So far I have the CAT6 wiring all in place but the next step is to distribute Freesat, Digital terrestial and FM signals around the house.
A look inthe loft revealed an old passive distribution box that serves the lounge and some of the bedrooms.
Would it be a good idea to replace this passive box with a new distributor? Which one gives the best performance?

One or two Satellite quality coax cables to each tv point will be fine.
Yes change the passive splitter to an active one, it means you will need power up there, but it will also then power any ir eyes you want to fit to control hidden or centralised hardware.
TBH I find installing FM and DAB distribution difficult to justify when most people just use the internal aerials on hardware. The only place it is usually useful is to feed a central rack.
You will find that the central TV amp you put in will be able to pass FM and DAB and then you just split them out at the faceplate. Making sure you isolate the 9v supply for ir eyes.

will this actually allow me to distribute the LNB signal or ist a cheap RF uplink relay?
I've been told that a proper octo lnb is the way to go..?

If I was doing the job I would use an Octo-LNB and take two feeds to each room where you may have a Freesat/Sky box, even if you don't fit a box now, you may in the future.
Take a third cable to each room from the loft distribution amp for UHF/DAB/FM etc.
Fit an uplink cable from the lounge or main Freesat/Sky position to the loft amp.
As already suggested get a good active distribution amp with 'bypass' for IR eyes. Labgear kit is ok.
