Fuzzy Sky in Bedroom
Discussion
A family member asked me to set up Sky in another room to the box and main tv set but I can't get it to be a clear picture.
It is a fairly new house, so there is cable from the RF2 Out of the box to a wall socket in the living room. The cable *seems* to be internally routed to several other rooms as I can't see any evidence of cable being run outside the house.
The room in question has a wall socket with a coax point and another protruding screw-on point (that looks like the Dish input at the back of the Sky box). If I connect the TV by coax to the wall socket, the picture is quite snowy.
However, if I move the same tv and coax cable to another room and plug it into the coax wall socket in that room, the picture is perfect, so it doesn't look as though it is the RF Channel that is the problem.
Any ideas, or should I just go and buy another wall socket for the problem room?
And finally, what is the other connection for on the wall socket? Would I be better off using that?

Pull the faceplate away and check the termination of the coax, maybe some strands are shorting out if it is scruffy.
It is much easier to trace problems with a multi-meter, you should have 9v from rf2. You can check at each point. U take it you have turned rf2 output on at the sky box?
There will likely be a distribution amplifier or splitter somewhere, usually in the loft or a utility cupboard, the 'up-link' from the main TV Position (living room) should feed this distro amp. I'd find this first.
The screw connector is called an 'F' Connector and is usually used for a Sat/Sky signal. Do you have a 4 way or 8 way LNB on the end of the Sky dish? If so these feeds probably go direct to the bedrooms to allow a Sky box to be fitted in the room.

I couldn't find a splitter box but I managed to get a good picture by using an f-connector to coax lead and screwing the connector to the wall socket and the coax into the aerial socket of the tv.
The only thing I can't get working is a magic eye - I have checked the installer menu and the RF power is definitely set to 'On'. I even tried connecting it to the cable that come out o the back of the box itself, to no avail.
Any ideas?

It really is easier to trace problems with a multimeter, if you have 9v dc at the sky box then you should get a red LED on your magic eye when plugged in.
Without a multimeter it is difficult to trace because you can still get a picture with shorts and 0v dc.
Without a multimeter I would check for a red LED at the sky box with the magic eye.
If yes, move on to next point.
If no, check rf2 out is activated and connections are correct ( not in rf1 ).
Much easier with a multimeter

Plugged the magic eye directly in to the box and there was no light, so I did a technical reset and turned everything off and on again, as I had been unplugging cables and plugging them back in again.
Tried again and lo and behold there was power to the eye! Tried it in the bedroom and also got a lIt LED bit curiously I still can't change channel with it, even with the light lit.
Will have to have another play in a couple of days.
On the upside, I managed to find about 140 Freeview channels by using the F-Connector, rather than the original dozen or so using the coax connection.
