What recorder should I get?

• A Humax YouView Freeview box which will require a new aerial and cable.
• A Humax Freetime Freesat box which will require at least one more cable (or a twin) attached to the spare connectors on the quad LNB?
• An alternative.

Excuse the sarcasm but what will the quad LNB be attached to?

The dish is on the end wall of the house.

• Feed 1 goes into a large drawing room which gets little use in the Winter as it costs a packet to heat.
• Feed 2 goes around the house to a small living room that we use most of the time (where the recorder will go). I haven't measured the offcut but I estimate it was a cable run of 30 - 35 metres from dish to TV (built in Freesat).
• A new terrestrial aerial would go on the end wall directly above the small living room.

Presuming you don't have an aerial then the Obvious choice is the Freesat box. the expense of wiring in that cable will be less than a new aerial for Freeview. BBC iPlayer and ITV Player are available on Freesat. To get Youview's catch up options you need a Network connection to your Home router. Wi-Fi, CAT5 Cable or cable using a Homeplug setup will do the job but they do cost a bit. If you do go YYouview you get all the major Channels catchup services. Essentially how much do you want to pay?

Thanks for the replies guys, including the analogue recorder that still works after the switchover. Freetime on Freesat is roughly the same as YouView on Freeview but 4OD and Demand 5 have not been released yet.

I was curious if anybody had any experience of both Freeview and Freesat recorders. Both BT (spit) and TalkTalk (spit) offer Broadband, Phone and TV packages that include a YouView box. It is just another factor when making a decision.

For me fitting an aerial will only cover the cost of the aerial itself as I have all the other bits and bobs and I don't have a problem climbing a ladder and fitting it. Satellite cable requires tacking all around tha house which would be a longer job.
