LG soundbar volume too low!

Having purchased an LG HLX56S soundbar I'm disappointed to find that the volume of TV programmes is nowhere near as loud or punchy as when I'm playing a DVD or have my phone docked on it and playing music.
I assume that I have installed the system correctly but am not an expert in these things. Please help!? Many thanks in advance......

I can't help I'm afraid, I've just started a separate thread about soundbar woes, the non-intuitive nature of modern TVs and accessories bugs the hell out of me though.

There might be a setting in your TV that controls the output settings for an external device: Certainly on my kitchen TV there is a setting to either fix the output level which gives a strong signal to the external amp or you can have it set to 'variable' which means that you can use the TV remote to control the sound level of the soundbar. You have to set my TV so that it 'knows' you have external speakers too, though I imagine you must have done this otherwise you'll get sound from both the TV and the soundbar.

I saw you had no response to the same post on AVforums, but did you try looking into the TV's settings as I mentioned? Also what TV is it?

Yep, it's an LG LED TV and I've looked at the audio settings on the TV to no avail. Don't get me wrong it's still pretty loud and coming from the sound bar but its much better on DVD/IPHONE mode....

Maybe the TV output is just lower than the DVD/iphone. I have my TV connected using the stereo phono cables to my amp and speakers (just an expanded version of your soundbar really) and my disc player connected directly to the amp is the same sort of volume (as is my PVR). My TV volume is just fixed for the phono outputs so there isn't anything to adjust, but the newer TV in the kitchen had various options such as the variable/fixed setting. Does the TV sound get louder from the soundbar if you turn the TV's volume up using the TV's remote?

Hmm. Yes the soundbar volume does adjust fine using the TV remote control too.....
