I've been after some half decent headphones for general use for a little while. My wife very kindly bought me some Bose AE2i on-ear phones, and the guy in the Bose store was more than happy to mention the 1 month, money back trial. So, I opened them, have had a good listen, and although they sound pretty good to my ears, i thought I'd pop to the high street and try some alternatives....

...then I auditioned some Beats... and (whisper it)... I really liked them...

Namely the Mixr and Pro models. I loved the thump they provided - they seemed to have a real depth that is lacking from the AE2i 'phones. I guess they're a bit bass-centric but to me they sounded brilliant, I was blown away. That said, the image really does nothing for me!

So, over to you lot. I know Beats are often slated by 'anyone who knows anything about anything' but what else should I try out before I join *that* demographic of Beats wearers!

Budget: £250 tops, Music: varied; trance, house, rap, rock, soul, pop....

They do say headphones are a personal choice. If you like 'em, and their sound suits you, that's all that matters.

Really you are comparing them to BOSE?? How about B&O? they might look good too.

If you want proper headphones have a listen to Beyerdynamics or Sennheiser offerings. Proper headphones.
