is it bad to turn off a tv
Discussion
At the plug socket without putting it on standy first? The reason i ask is because sometimes my hard drive will have a bad video file and when i try to play it my tv crashes and doesent respond to anything even on the tv itself the power button is touchscreen so.... Obviously sometimes i have to just turn the socket off is this bad?

Every time you turn it off at the plug, you reduce the TV's life by 50 days. Considering most consumer electrical devices, such as TVs, are designed to last about 12 months and destroy themselves a few days out of warranty, your TV is probably already on borrowed time.

This tbh.
I'd be keeping it on constantly and covering it with a black bin bag when you don't need to use it to mimic it being off.

I have a Toshiba LCD tv (one of the first ones its about 2ft thick) it is eight years old and my Mrs insists that she switches it off at the plug every night, it's still going strong!
Me thinks you have misread the, post, but I think you are correct in switching it off at the socket. Don't know about now but days gone by, a number did ignite when left plugged in, modern ones may be different.

As long as your tv doesn't have a hard drive or any internal storage device it should be fine but with you talking of corrupt video files i'm not sure if you mean a TV?!?Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
