OK, after many hours spent at my local car audio specialist I'm throwing this one open to the combined wealth of PH knowledge.

My G1 Insight needs some speakers to replace the crappy Honda OEM items, problem is they are very shallow.

Looking for 165mm MAX dia, mounting depth of no more than about 52mm, max hole dia of about 130mm, max magnet dia od 80mm.

Somebody out there must have an idea.

Quite possibly, but in a home cinema forum the best answer you're likely to get would be PMC Wafer IIs. A snip at £2200.

Not sure they will be easy to fit in his car.

Typical PH director pricing. wink

You could have posted a link to the Wafer 1 as they are much cheaper:

(That's just for one though). I really fancy getting a pair of these to use as surround speakers to go with my TB2+ fronts. cool

They'll go nicely - the Is are roughly equivalent to the DB1s, so would match the TB2s quite well.

I just had a look to find the ICE section to post a link for the OP, but I can't seem to find one. confused

Damn I'll have to got for Wafer 2s then so they match the TB2+ either that or just stick with my little M&K K4s and K5s for now. I saw a Sony VW1000ES at the weekend so I'm drooling over one of those as well. Not good seeing as I only just got my JVC X35 before Christmas...

Any use?

For car audio, most home speakers would be no use - car audio is 2 or 4 ohm, home kit more 8. I'm sure you can find a car driver to fit smile

If you're leading with TB2 LCR, then you don't need anything of that heft for your surrounds - Wafter I's will be more than enough.

Argghhh!! I'm not listening. wink Actually I nearly did buy some secondhand wafer 1s I found but wasn't sure they would fit where my K4s currently go. However, a future plan to rearrange the room might change the side surround's location, so we shall see. I know that I can't consider the speakers I saw with the VW1000ES though as apparently they cost more than my house!! Still, nice to see/hear what the cutting edge is like.

Apologies to the OP as this isn't helping find an answer and I can't find a sub forum that might help either: I can't believe there isn't an in car entertainment section (or maybe I'm blind).

So you clearly should have told him he would need a glass fibre kit to go with them tongue out.

You will really struggle to get something with a 52mm depth in 165mm size, slimmest i found was about 56mm.

You need to find speakers with neodynium magnets, or for better quality make your own door pockets with angled baffles and solid mounts.

?
Googling "16.5 slim fit speakers" says
Jbl slim fit 44mm
Vibe slick 6 44mm
Kenwood custom fit 44mm

70mm magnet, as well those ones are.

"honda insight speakers" links to forums where apparently boston accoustics and kenwood deffo fit, as do some polks.

I was meaning good speakers, but i guess it depends on his budget and the level of quality the op wants.
