Just bought a new smart TV and connected a wireless LAN dongle to enable Viera connectivity. It has (eventually) connected to our home network, but is really poor e.g. with iPlayer, managing only a couple of seconds before freezing ( for buffering?). On my iPad in the same room, I can watch iPlayer with no problem.
I did note that the manual recommended connecting the dongle with an extension lead rather than directly in the USB port ( to minimise interference?). Could that increase the strength or speed of the connection?

Not an answer to your question but I'd really recommend wired or a power line ether net adapter for streaming.

Having said that a while ago I had an old laptop with a usb wifi dangle and a short extention cable made a big difference, mainly I think because wifi antennas are polarised so different angles helped, if you see what I mean. Mine came with a extention cable/stand thingy combined.

To echo what the other poster said, the Panasonic wifi adapter is quite poor. I used one before I had wired up my house and it was rubbish.

Powerline option is a good solution but to be honest, the online system on the Panasonics isn't that great.

I've binned the dongle, drilled a small hole in the kitchen wall [where the router is] and just run a length of cat 5 to the back of the telly. All hidden under the carpet and at last it works like a dream. Beforehand we had the same problem with buffering, even though our connection speed was over 25megathingies

I found the same with my panasonic GT50. I used powerline adapters as suggested above and it performs flawlessly.

Thanks for the responses. Seems crazy to me that Apple can squeeze functional hardware into an iPad, but Panasonic can't make a TV work.

moral of the story 'fixed' appliances which need conectivity generally do better with fixed cabling or decent powerline adaptors ...

To be fair. How much other electrical equipment is right next to the dongle (Sky box? TV Screen itself, PSU, Games console?) stuck in the corner of a room or on a wall.

Not really the same as an iPad.

Why do you think Panasonic suggest running it on an extension to get it away from the guts of the TV.
