Helping my Father connect up his new LG 37" Smart TV to the Cambridge Audio One+ micro system for sound. I've bought a CYP AUD3-192 DAC and wired it all up to one of the AUX inputs on the micro system. It all works well but the audio level from the speakers is half from the TV than it is from the other inputs. For example, if the in-built DAB radio is comfortable at volume level 12 you have to crank it up to >20 to get anything comfortable from the TV (AUX).

I've used a reasonable quality Cambridge Audio optical cable and interconnect both of which are quite short. The TV has no output level adjustment for the optical output but I have set it to PCM in order to get stereo out of HD channels. The TV volume adjustment does nothing. It is set to External Speakers.

I've tried both AUX inputs on the Hi Fi and they both have similar levels. There is no AUX input adjustment on the Hi Fi.

My thoughts are that it could be a ground problem, a faulty DAC or that this is just the way it is.

Does anybody have any experience with this DAC or Hi Fi or have any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like the output is too low or the AUX input is not sensitive enough. Best way to check is to plug something else into the AUX connector (i.e. a CD player) and see what the volume is like.

My Sony Tv is lower output into my DAC (Leema Elements) than any of the other sources, I need about 50% more on the volume to bring to the same sort of level. ie 20 for music or DVD and 30 for the TV

Thanks. smile

I had a feeling it might just be "the way it is". I thought though, that "line level" was a kind of standard but I am no expert.

Choices now are to try another DAC or to put a pre-amp inline to get the level up before the Hi Fi.

But an audio stereo DAC won't recognise the surround sound signal, it has to be set to 2 channel PCM for a stereo DAC to decode, so that doesn't apply in this case.

TV output is set to PCM (not auto) so this should be fine. Thanks!
