I'm sure this has been done before, but as usual the search facility is down, basically the mother in law has asked me to get rid of about 3 big boxes of VHS tapes, blank tapes that have some old recordings on, and I do mean old.
Is there still a use for these, or is the tip my best bet.

They're only a couple of quid new, so used not really worth much. I'd just dump them and save a load of hassle.

I had about 120 "proper" films on VHS, many widescreen. I couldn't sell them for love nor money. In the end I had to offer them FREE with 2 FREE Sony VCRs before anyone took any notice of them.

Still, cleared space in the loft and BOY the quality is terrible.

Depends what they are.
Some old programs that have never been on DVD they have value, not money but value as historic recordings. RIP and post to YouTube, there are many who would love to see them possibly.

Too true, there are quite a few well known series that are so far lost as masters have been lost, damaged etc

Old adverts are always a laugh, loads uploaded on Youtube. Not worth anything but somebody might like to see them.

VHS... reminds me of the days when I used to frequent car boot sales.

The stall with the biggest gathering of people was always the one crammed with VHS tapes.

I guess the masses flock around DVD stalls now?

Or perhaps those tapes would still have some value at a car boot sale..?

No and no.
People download or stream movies these days, and nobody buys VHS tapes any more.

Who'll promptly tell you they don't want them.

With good reason. Just chuck them in the bin.
