This is like a what car thread but for my new tv. smile

So after reading through a lot of threads on here I'm slightly wiser to tv tech but still no expert.

The basics;
- Used mainly for films and gaming. Occasional tv use but freeview HD would be nice.
- Budget of around £550. Give or take £50ish.
- Size of ideally 50"-55" if possible.
- Full HD
- Ideally LED (plasma is ok)

I've read a lot recently about aspect ratios which I kind of get but not greatly, unsure on content etc.
I've also had a look at contrast ratios which if I understand it, the higher the ratio, the better the blacks and whites.

Thanks in advance.

(plasma is ok).
Unless things have changed plasma isn't recommended for gaming

See I'm not too bad with my tvs but didn't know that, why is that then?

I'm currently looking at a Panny TXL50EM5B at £600.

I've always preferred plasma for gaming. Fast non laggy screens compared to lcd panels with varying response times.

IR isn't the issue it once was. I've spent several nights gaming on a friends new GT50 without a hint if IR and my 3 year old LG isn't far behind.

I did have a read up earlier on IR with plasmas but it doesn't seem to much of an issue now.
I think I've decided on an LG50PM670T after a lot of searching. I was going to opt for Currys but John Lewis has it at the same price but with a 5 year guarantee!
