Jvc tv -sony dvd hdmi problem

We bought a new jvc tv yesterday and a new sony dvd player got home fitted it all up and the tv will work fine but when we went to watch a dvd the tv turns itself off and on about every 60 seconds.
Any one encounterd a problem like this iv read on various forums that it may be a hdmi problem ?

Does the TV literally turn off, or do you mean the picture goes blank but the TV stays on? If the later then it could be a dodgy HDMI cable, so you could simply try another cable (if it's a very short one, try one at least 6' long since sometimes short cables can cause issues). Also it could be to do with the HDMI control signals. You may have to turn it off in the TV's menu and/or the player's menu. You could also try a different HDMI socket on the TV incase it is an issue with that socket on the TV (unlikely, but worth finding out now while it's under warranty).

Thanks for your responses... The TV does literally turn off- the first time it happened we thought we'd sat on the remote. We tried it in each of the three HTMI ports and no difference between them. Trying to go through settings again now...

Took it back to the store and they swaped it for the demo and now all works fine.
