If this is your first projector,make sure you do some research about potential models before committing to buy. Certain brands do not allow warranties to be transferred between owners (JVC for one). There are certain common known problems with some projectors too (even if it's something easy to fix like early lamp dimming, it could turn a bargain into 'might as well have bought a new one with a warranty').
Finally, put the figures for any potential purchase in to this calculator since there have been anumber of buyers recently over on AVforums who can't fill their screen or can't make the image small enough so it doesn't overspill their screen.

FWIW I recently sold a 4 year old JVC HD350 for £700 on the AVforum's classifieds if it gives you an idea of pricing. I've replaced it with an X35 which is great and really enjoyed rewatching Skyfall on it last weekend (much better picture & sound than the local Showcase plus we can enjoy a drink too).
