Home TV/AV setup advice/guidance
Discussion
Would greatly appreciate some advice/guidance with the following scenario.
Currently in the process of having a rear extension built of an open plan kitchen/living area and the builder now needs to know where I would like the power points installed.
The wall I am planning to hang the flat screen TV on is approx 4m in width.
I'm thinking of a very simple setup of:
Panasonic 50" plasma
Bluray player
AV receiver
Sky PVR
XBox
Hence, I need to work out how many electrical sockets should be installed and their location.
I would imagine the TV will hang pretty much in the centre of the wall but can anyone advise what is the optimum height it should be?
Once I know this, I believe I should then install at least one power socket in this location - or should there be more?
At a lower level, directly in line with the centre of the TV, would be the AV equipment detailed above which would require 4 power sockets.
Initially, I was thinking of having 8 power sockets installed or would 6 suffice?
I also need to run speaker cables but the last time I looked into this 'tech' was when Dolby 5.1 was prevalent but think things have progressed to Dolby 6.1. As such, how many speaker cables would I need to run, where and which is a good (cheap) cable to purchase?
Finally, while I am at it, should I also run a couple of Cat 5 (or 6) network cables to this location?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi
The TV should be IMO just above eye level.
As for sockets behind the tv I would be wanting. 1 x Power, 1 x Aerial, 1 x Cat5/6, 1 x Sat and 1 HDMI Faceplate connected to another HDMI Faceplate at the level of the AVR. This will cover any Smart TV with Freesat and Freeview.
Down at equipment level I would be looking at what equipment you have plug wise and double your requirements..
For me that would mean 8 Power , 4 Cat5/6 and 2 Sat
Any Cables in the wall I would run in a Conduit/Pipe so if you need to change them you can.
In terms of speaker cable amount that comes down to whether you want 5.1 or 7.1 and you will also need to consider Subwoofer Placement and Cabling
Any more questions give me a shout.
