Satelite dish advice needed ?
Discussion
Foolishly offered to install a Sky Dish for the wifes uncle, to gain signal for free sat.
Positioned the dish at the front of the house to mirror what the neighbours dishes were doing(in the hope that this would gain the signal required)
Terminated either end of the coax cable and screwed into LNB and the back of the TV(freesat) and when programming the telly its saying that it can't find a satelite signal ?
Multiple trips up the ladder to re adjust the position of the dish with no joy.
Baught a signal finder but it only seems to pick up a weak signal :-(
My thought/frustrations sre that why if directed in the same position as the 2 neighbours dishes does it seem so difficult to find a signal ? ie if its picking up Sky tele(neighbours dish) is this a better signal(hence there direction) ? or are the dishes that sensitive to exact positioning ?
Any helpfull advise is greatfully recieved !

You might need to fine tune the dish a bit more and adjust the LNB skew.
Have a look at this as a guide http://www.uksatellitehelp.co.uk/2007/08/12/satell...

As stated above, a dish will loose signal if more than a few mm out of alignment. The sat finder you have bought will only tell you a signal is present but not necessarily on the right satellite.
Put your hand in your pocket, a pro will optimize the dish, even if you find the satellite if its not spot on you will loose signal when it rains etc.

Installing a dish isn't easy but it is relatively straight forward DIY job with a signal strength meter; simply attach it in line with the dish, and adjust the dish so you can move it up / down / left right easily but not so the dish is floppy, then go gently up down, moving dish from left to right until you get a reading on the meter. Check then that you are getting signals from the correct satellite, if no sky then you are on the wrong sat but you will have pretty much the azimuth ie the up / down. Just move along left or right until you eventually hit the spot.
You can get signal meters on ebay or here

this one has a tone as well which rises in pitch when you hit a satellite.
