TV 24in + Smart + FVHD Tuner : Does it exist?
Discussion
I am looking for a smallish TV to use in the office/bedroom. But it appears that they don't actually make what I want!
I have gone through the high-street shops and the web sites of the major manufacturers, but my brain turns to jelly when I ask Amazon to list the options. These are a few of the major manufacturers' wares;
Panasonic TX-L24X5B. LED 1080(yes) Freeview HD (yes). Smart TV. No
Sony KDL-22EX553. Freeview HD (yes), Smart TV (very much yes - with WiFi). 1080? No. 720 HD-Ready only.
Samsung UE22ES5400. 1080 (yes). Smart TV(yes). Freeview HD? No
Philips 22PFL3517T/12. LED 1080P(yes - 100Hz!). Freeview HD (yes). Smart TV (some). 5yr guarantee at John Lewis.
So what's the problem? It has to be the Philips. Except that many many reviews say it is slow to change channel, navigate, and use the Smart facilities. Bit of a killer that. It is also in white. Urgh.
Are there any models I have missed? I understand that the 2013 models will be due soon, if anyone has heard any murmurings about those. Right now, my thought is to possibly go with a 1080 with FHD built in, and then plug in something like a Raspberry Pi (I don't want Netflix, but iPlayer and YouTube are essential) or one of those other similar dual-core A9 doohdahs. They look much more powerful than the Rasp, but I can't imagine support is going to be anywhere near as goods. Against the Rasp Pi is that it is physically rather clunky and would need an external power supply.
Any thoughts or pointers?
Cheers
- It needs to be under 24in, preferably 22in or so. Larger isn't practical, and I would like to run it at the side of the 23in PC monitor, so I can run it in dual screen mode now and then (plenty of spare DVI/HDMI outputs on the PC). I don't see any point going below 1080. I think alongside the PC monitor a 720 screen would look poor. Yes, when someone is in bed watching it they won't see the HD-ness, but right now I am 3ft or so away and I can certainly tell the difference between 720 and 1080 video.
- I want it to have integrated Freeview HD rather than an external box - there isn't really room and I don't want yet another remote, power socket and nest of cables. Incidentally, I was looking for Freeview HD decoder boxes, and all the high street names seem to be shunning them now, unless you want an el-cheapo brand or a full recorder.
- I really would like it to be able to stream BBC iPlayer and YouTube so I don't have to have the PC running.
