55VT65 will be out next month but if your budget can go that bit further ZT65 is really the only way to go it said to be the new Pioneer Kuro and that was the best TV ours is still same years later.

Panasonic. Whenever I watch TV at a non Panasonic equipped mates house, the picture quality and colour balance is always poor, regardless of the reviews it may have received. If you have space, the 65" is awesome.

Samsung have just released their new 6 7 and 8 series. My local comet have just put them all out on display. All look great, with very small bezels.

We're going for a 55" 7 series as I like the stainless steel look bezel (the 6 and 8 are black/stainless)

VT65s are available now in 50/55 inch sizes. the 65" will be out in the next 7-10 days

We also have the F7000/8000 Samsungs and as usual they look fantastic until you switch them on!
I honestly think last years ES8000 range had a better picture quality!

Yesterday we had the 55F8000 and 55VT65 side by side with the snooker in HD on and I know it
sounds like a broken record but the Panasonic walked it.

Also veiwed the only example of the 60ZT65 in the UK last week, and I honestly think they've moved the game on it'll be available in limited numbers late May/early June at £3800ish.

You may hear the LCD fanboys pointing out that Panasonic are ceasing development on plasma TVs this is
actually very true, but with the quality of the ZT65 it'll take something very special to top it using existing technology, The Panasonic/Sony Co-developed OLED panels will be with us this time next year hopefully and at a surprising price point if my source at Bracknell is correct, as the manufacturing process they've developed using a printing system is already showing promise of easy mass production.

Presumably the ZT is only 60" and above?

Not had a plasma before and had never really considered one, I had almost assumed the way to go was LCD/LED

I assume plasma are active 3D as opposed passive, and thoughts on active vs passive or is that a can of worms!

Sounds like Panasonic is the way to go, there seem to be about 10 ranges for 2013 and the website does little to help clarify

What is there premium set? I assume ZT in plasma?

Cheers

Range sequence is ZT/VT/GT/ST and IMO anyone of them will outperform any LCD set unless you're going to spend 10 hours per day glued to
a games console, and even then screenburn isn't an issue as long as the plasma is set up properly.

The ZT and VT plasmas comfortably beat the previous champion the legendary Kuro plasma from Pioneer and the GT and ST series easily match
the Pioneer.

The Active 3D vs passive 3D question is a little more difficult, but be vary wary of a demo of active 3D in a store were there's a lot of
ambient light, as you'll see flicker, viewed appropriately (ie in darkness as you see in the cinema) then its easily the best effect
but not everyone gets on with it.

Passive 3D is totally benign with no flicker at all but it's not HD and you can get problems at extreme viewing angles, but the glasses
are cheap, you can use the glasses you get at the cinema.

But get out and get a proper demo, but make sure you view the sets in similar lighting conditions that you have at home, as overly bright
shop viewing areas make LED lit LCDs look better and they make Plasmas look duller, but the effect is reversed in normal lighting conditions

Also overly bright viewing conditions mask the biggest issues with LED lit LCD sets such as non uniform backlighting which manifests itself
as light pooling in the corners of the screen.

I've just purchased a 50" VT50 at a knockdown price as it's EOL and it is awesome. If you can find one, I thoroughly recommend it. It's received stunning reviews.

With the £2k you save, do a few trackdays.
