Sonos problem - Connect is screwing my LAN performance ???

Well... after the great success of installing and using the Sonos Connect to stream music and Radio to my AV amp, an unfortunate irritating unexpected impact has arisen.
I have all my media on a QNAP NAS in the front room beside the wireless router. I use powerline adaptors to extend wired connectivity to the three PS3s I have in different rooms around the house. Any of the PS3s are therefore able to play movies from the NAS via the poweline adaptors, and have done so faultlessly for years.
After installing the Sonos me and my boys were watching a movie yesterday via the PS3 which is connected to the AV amp in the lounge. For the first time since using the powerline adaptors there were pauses as it appeared the movie was waiting for buffering from the NAS.
I assumed it was something to do with the Sonos as I had used the 2 LAN ports on the back of the Sonos, the powerline plugging into the Sonos, then from the Sonos onto the PS3. I checked the spec of the Sonos LAN ports and they don't appear to be Gigabit, only 100mps, which would explain the slow down of file transfer through the Connect ports onto the PS3. Not a problem, I could buy a gigabit switch and plug the PS3 and Connect in separately.
However, this morning I was watching another movie in the front room with one of the boys. This PS3 is connected directly into the router and therefore should able to stream from the NAS through the router directly as all components are together. But it also started pausing and buffering, not as bad as the PS3 in the lounge but still irritating.
So I disconnected the Sonos from the front room, which caused some kind of general network issue and re-started the movis in the front room, all sorted, not another pause.
So what's happening? How is having the Sonos connected to the LAN able to slow the whole thing down? I'm confused?
I know there's a few guys on here who know their Sonos stuff... any ideas?

I have had this once before on a Lan wired sonos system and it could be a clash of IP addresses or an IP Loop, where the Sonos is connecting on both its wireless side and wifi. They can get a bit confused with a good wifi connection and a wired connection.
Is it the only Sonos box you have or do you have others?
Have you check the ip address of your network to see if you have any clashes?
