I need a reasonably priced unit to be used mostly for time shifting my TV viewing. A huge memory or internet connection are not really needed, a decent Programme Guide is a must.

I would prefer not to buy Sony as my experience with their products recently has not been good.

As a bit of a luddite I am having a hard time sorting out the best choice so a bit of guidance will be gratefully received.

If your ISP is either BT or TalkTalk their TV package includes a YouView box, made by Humax. Two colleagues at work have them and think the box is great.

Thanks but I live in the back of beyond with rubbish broadband and no upgrade on the horizon, so just a basic unit is all I need. I don't want to pay a subscription just to watch broadcast tv, I don't need Sky or similar, just the ability to record and play back tv programmes on a unit that will not break down.

Humax all day, everyday.

It is not a patch on the Sky version.

I just got a Humax HDR-FOX T2 (think that's the right model name) with a 500GB disk last week, I love it already.
