You'll get mixed responses.

It depends entirely on what you're looking for.

The short answer is that most of what you pay for is their marketing budget, IMHO there are many better options.

What do you actually want from the system?

Not sure you actually know what you want.

The Bose is an ipod dock/amp/speaker combo. It doesn't play radio or downloaded music, all that must come from your idevice.

Sonos is multi-room music streamer that can play either music held locally on a computer or NAS or remotely on something like Spotify. It does do internet radio.

Neither are really comparable. So, what is it that you are looking for?
We need to understand where your music is held (CD/Online/PC/Itunes/NAS) what equipment you already have (ithing/android thing, PC's, hi-fi stuff etc.) and what you want to do with this new kit.

I actually think that the Bose Sounddocks are reasonable for what they are. It is one of the sectors that they seem to so quite well.

However, the Sounddock 10 is £500 and at that price I'd be looking at the B&W Zeppelin.

As mentioned above, Sonos is a completely different system. You could buy a Play 5 unit to play music from your phone/iPod (although it doesn't physically dock the device), but what you are really paying for is the basis of a multiroom system to play your main music collection and stream from Spotify or equivalent.

Agree with the above. People love to come on and do a bit of Bose bashing.

But for what you pay it is much better than the other mainstream players (Philips, JBL, Samsung, HK etc).

But at £500 price point I would be looking at the stuff Bowers & Wilkins are knocking out. Different league again. Some people say the B&O stuff is better but it isn't, I feel that sits somewhere between Bose and B&W.

I have a Bose soundock series 1 for around 8 years or so. As far as I am concerned it sits in the kitchen and puts out a fantastic sound for MP3s.

have just got a sonos play 5 to replace the soundock which moved to the shed. I expect to get shot down here but my old soundock for me is a far better sound than the play 5.

but if the new soundock is £500 don't get it until you have heard the B & W Zeppelin @ same price. make sure you try them both as the Zeppelin for me is a far better sound than the Bose.

I like Bose I have and use other Bose equipment but the Zeppelin was a way better sound.

Do you know who developed and provides the amps in the B&W? Bang & Olufsen. Which of the B&O docks/AirPlay devices have you auditioned against the B&W ones? Because I though the B&O had much deeper, and more natural sound.

Either way, whichever one you buy B&O are making some money from it

If that is the bluetooth dock then don't bother. My parents have got one and the sound quality is shocking! Pay the extra and get a Bang Olufsen Beolit 12.

I'm very happy with the Bose, I found the sound better than the Zeppelins, will appreciate other may have different views. However the Bose is better than pretty much any other Sounddock out there i.e. Sony/Pioneer/Logitech/Beats etc

I have Bose Accoustimass 5 speakers matched with a Denon amp and CD player, I went for the Bose as I have a tiny living room and the cubes are tiny, the sub is hidden behind a sofa. For the size of the speakers the sound is immense, I have never regretted buying them and have had them for more than 10 years.
