I'm struggling to decide whether I should go down the smart tv route or not. I currently have Sky which provides me with BBC iplayer, itv player etc so wouldn't be using the tv for that. I have a laptop/ipad for quick internet access and skype so wouldn't really use tv for that either.

I've pretty muched talked myself out of the need for a smart tv and as such been looking at 'normal' tvs but there is still the niggle in the back of my mind that maybe I should still get one.

The only real benefit I see is that they are full HD. There is a possiblity that I'll be getting the PS4 at some point next year so feel that I really should be looking at full HD tvs.

BUT, and this is where I am struggling, do I really need to worry about getting a 1080p tv or would a 720p plasma be OK?

The tvs I've been mulling over are the Panny Viera TX-P42X60B and the Samsung UE40EH5300. There is around £100 price difference between the two. Do I go with the Panny that is only 720p or do I bite the bullet and go with the Samsung knowing I wouldn't really use the features but have 1080p.

What would you guys suggest?

i recently got a Panasonic GT50B plasma mainly for its picture quality reviews, but it is also a 3D smart TV. I don't use these functions but a friend of mine has the same TV and does, personally i would rather use a laptop still but the smart side of it was better than i expected.

One big point for me though is the fact any external hard drive can be plugged straight into it to watch any films or pictures that you used to watch on PC/laptop, this also works as a recorder which is a nice touch.

Also any software updates will be very easy with built in wifi, this could prove very handy a few years down the line

ref the 1080p question i guess it depends what you wouldd use it for and if you will notice the difference, truth is probably not alot but i wanted the best picture at my price (£700) so 1080p in THX cinema mode was important for me

I've never bothered. I have a media PC plugged into the screen and it does everything. The screen is just a screen.
