My mother has just moved into a new flat and needs a new telly. She's happy with something in the 32" to 40" size (certainly no bigger than 40") but I'm struggling to find anything around the 36" size?

Not looking to spend a fortune though and thought these Finlux 32" looked good value.. http://www.finluxdirect.com/led-tvs/finlux-32-smar...

Shame it's only 32" Don't really want to spend more than £300, but would prefer to get something like the above but around 36"

Oh, and she will probably be going with Virgin which is installed already if that makes any difference.

What do you recommend?

There are a couple of very thin framed 39" TVs about which might help as otherwise they tend to go from 32" to 40". I just replaced an older 32" in my conservatory with a Panasonic 39E6B from Richer Sounds (I just noticed it went down by £20 since last Friday when I bought it...). It is no bigger overall than the old Sony 32" and the picture is great too (and it is bright enough for a conservatory which some other TVs I tried weren't, note it can be dimmed down for night time viewing or darker rooms).

There is an older model the 37" E5B which they might still have, but as the frame is thicker it might not be any smaller overall, though it's a bit cheaper if the £10 matters:

Great stuff, thanks. That 39" Panasonic is lovely, though it's a wee bit more than I was looking to spend at £500 odd..

You are quite right though, comparing the overall dimensions (without stand) the 39" set is only a few mm larger that the 37"

A thin framed 39" may be the way to go...

I should have added:

I don't know how tech savvy your Mum is, but it is possible to set up the TV so that the start up screen is just a standard full screen TV rather than the other ones with weather, TV guide, etc around a smaller TV picture. I did this since I imagined it might confuse some users;it's easy enough to get to the iPlayer menu and other web features if needed.

She's not that tech savvy, and unfortunately I'm too far to be able to pop round and set it up for her. Reckon one of my sisters or BIL could help though..

How about this one?

I think that is the previous version to mine, though the surround is a little wider, for the money it should be a decent enough set if mine is anything to go by (though I've never seen that model myself).

Mine was really easy to set up, but I could understand someone finding it a bit daunting (I know my Dad always seems to worry he's going to 'blow something up' just by pressing a button smile ). I came home one day this week though and found my OH had worked out how to use the weather app on ours, so it must be intuitive enough as she's not usually that techy.
