Does anyone have this soundbar connected to their PS3? I bought one a week a go and just wanted to confirm what settings in the audio options Im suppoosed to have ticked? The problem Im having is although the sound itself is great im struggling to notice any surround affects. Not good for something that cost me over £600! The PS3 is connected to the the soundbar and then the soundbar goes in to the 'ARC' connection on my TV.

Ive run the Intellibeam setup a few times now and it hasnt made any difference.

Are you being entirely realistic in your expectations, remember it works by "bouncing" sound around the room so could be effected by its positioning and the shape of your room. IMO no voodoo magic can possibly match proper speakers in the right place, although I do understand the Yamaha soundbars are better than average in that respect.

Regarding the settings, the best way would be to reset the picture and audio settings on the ps3,you can do this by holding down the power button while in standby, keep holding down the button until the console beeps and it will then take you through setup of the outputs.

Yes i think i am being realistic with my expectations as i had a demo in store and it sounded better than in my own friont room. Perhaps it just doesnt like where its positioned.

Where is it positioned?

My mate complained about his and it was in an alcove next to a fireplace, in a corner, with the one flat wall next to it covered with a full length curtain. He never was very good at physics.

They work by bouncing sound off the walls to the side of and behind you, so work much better in a room where the screen is in the middle and the unit has walls either side to bounce off.

Curtains make it very difficult for the sound to bounce as they absorb it. A corner makes it very difficult as well.

Even in an ideal setup the sweet spot where you can sit is quite small.

I think as someone else said its about managing expectations. You will get much better stereo sound than from the TV but might be a bit optimistic expecting a full surround effect in your setup.

Im not expecting surround from a full system but would like to get close to what I experienced in the demo. Theres a couple of things im going to try first before I give up.

Are you sure the sound bar isn't taking the sound from the telly via the ARC? If it is, it will be 2 channel stereo.

Going through the ARC connector on the tv is how the instructions have advised me to set it up.

Ive been reading a lot of reviews from people who've bought this soundbar and they all advise to manually set it up rather than using the auto setup. Ive been playing with the settings and have improved the surround affect from what they were. Ive still got a a little way to go though.

Little bit of an update. After lots of fiddling with the manual setup ive found that the 'Sound Out' setting was set to Stereo and not Surround! God knows how this happened as the auto setup should have at least done this!

Ive changed the setting to surround and noticed an immediate improvement. Just a case of fine tuning it now.
