We are starting looking for a new TV for the living room but not wanting to spend a fortune but still want a few nice features......

We would like it to be a smart TV, 50" - 60", LED or LCD and as high spec as possible and £700 max budget....

What would you recommend?

Not keen on the plasma a as they are very reflective and you see a lot of reflections (I have a 42" plasma now)

Most LCD/LED sets have very glossy screens now as well, On the TX-P50ST60 plasma it has a very efficient
anti-reflective coating that actualy works well, it's up at £861 with me, but due to Panasonics dealer trading
agreement you have to buy from the store itself, but you do get a 5yr warranty as part of the deal!

This set's picture quality is way above what an LCD/LED set can offer at the that price point, also if you
can be tempted the 55" version of the same set can be had for £1159.

PM me your number if you want more info....

Thanks for the advice, I will have a good look and read and see what the reviews say.....

If you can explain (in lay mans terms) what the processor speeds and hertz etc to look for would be good and why the higher the better.

The Panasonic Led ET series is in your budget and they are cracking, i cant see past Panasonic but actually prefer Plasma as I find LEDs too bright and artificial but Panasonic ones are the best of the bunch in my opinion. Plasmas are more reflective so not suitable next to a window or conservatory but the picture is better more realistic and natural . Again I would have a good look at Panasonic Plasmas.

Dont get to concerened about Hertz as each manufacturer has there own way of measuring it so it is difficult to compare just looking at figures, let your eyes be the judge of picture quality.

Proccessing is important as this is the brains of the tv and can make a standard definition freeview signal upscale to fit an HD panel and make the picture look good. This is a real challenge for tvs to make a 740 line input signal fill a 1080 HD panel. All tvs do it, but some far better than others, thats why Panasonic are so highly thought of in here. They do this better than anyone else.

At that price it'll be a graded set (typically a faulty set that's been repaired) and it won't qualify for the
five year warranty, also there's a few shop demos floating round at various retailers, always a lottery
as they could've been hammered, a new 50GT60 it a better buy @ £1056 imo.

Anymore options / deals or advice?

Just put my 42" in the living room and struggled to see the listings on sky as it looked that small!

Thinking more 55"-60" rather than 50"

Panny 55ST60 is a cracker for under £1160, or you could go for the big kahunha the 55VT65 which we have
at £1855, the VT65 is probably the best TV of its size available today...

Just over double budget 😳

If I had to stretch to 1k I would but no more.

I know the pansy are top of the tree but I would consider other brands.......

I have the 55 inch version of this set, and it is an absolute cracker, now that it has run in. Not sure you can get one for £700 though?

Where did you source this from Harry? You mentioned you compared it next to an LED, how does the look of the actual TV compare? I have been looking at a 55VT65 but can't get past what seems a very dated look, the frame on yours seems much more in keeping with the modern look I favour.

I literally bought the 42" version of that 3 days ago and am extremely pleased. £550 including 5yr warranty from Richer Sounds.

The picture quality on HD is utterly magnificent, fairly decent on SD too and the "Smart" interface is well worth the extra money, all sorts of media streaming etc I haven't fully worked out yet.

There's a slightly clunky but workable iPod app that lets you use it as a remote control and also wirelessly stream music to it.

Very thin, very stylish, looks a good price...
