Hi folks,

I'm well out of the world of hifi but I am looking for some new speakers to replace my venerable Mission 731s and move them on to surround duties.

My kit list is an Arcam AVR100 & Arcam CD72, and I'll be using it for sound from TV/DVD/BluRay as well as stereo stuff from CD.

I listen to a mix of rock and classical music, and have always liked the Mission "sound", my brother has a recent pair of 780s that I like very much (not the earlier ones). Back in the day I always fancied a pair of B&W DM601S2s but they seem more expensive now than when they were new 15 years ago!

Budget wise, I don't really want to spend a great deal more than £100, less if I can, quite happy with second hand speakers but not sure where to look other than eBay.

If I could find another pair of the 731s, to be honest that would probably be OK although they are a lot more expensive now than when I bought mine new!

Any suggestions? Saw somebody on here singing the praise of the Tannoy Sixes the other day, so looking for other stuff that I haven't considered...

Thanks in advance.

What's your budget? You looked at avforums classifieds?

Prefer to stay under £100 but just over would be OK. Not looked over there, wasn't sure what the best places to go were.

Just wondering what else I should be considering.

SuperFi still have Wharfedale 9.1s at £99.95, reduced from £179.95.

I have a pair of these on my surround amp (Pioneer VSX922) and they are excellent.

Also received rave reviews when they first came out.

If you can make sure you demo them at home. Many dealers will let you do this for a swipe of the full amount on your card. Speakers will likely sound quite different in a store than they will in your home.

Those Wharfedales look great, but not in stock sadly frown

Try Richer Sounds. They have them for the same price.

Do you have a link? Can only find the 9.0s...

Richer Sounds do appear to be out of stock.

I found a pair of black ones on Amazon

Superfi on the other hand appear to have stock in London which can be transferred to another of the branches below - but I don't know if any of those are close to you though.

You could always add to your 731's with a pair of Mission 73ps passive subwoofers. Makes them sound like larger floor standers. They occasionally come up on eBay.

Also look on Gumtree for secondhand items close to you .

You'd probably find another pair of Missions a better match to what you have if planning to use them together in a surround system .

However , it was probably me you were referring to about the Tannoy Sixes when I mentioned in my thread about selling on my IMF's .

The pair of 611's I bought cost me £120 and this seems to be about the going rate for them - there are at least two pairs on eBay just now , and I found my pair on Gumtree a couple of weeks back .

You'll get some 780's for about £100 or less second hand.

Watch out for some Quad 11L's or better still some Dynaudio Audience 42's as they're both much better than the 780's IMO. I picked up some Audience 42's for £125 last year on Gumtree.
