Naim Uniti 2, assistance please
Discussion
I want to move into the world of digital music and transfer my considerable collection of CDs onto hard drive. At present I have a Meridian CD player and amplifier together with Pro Ac speakers. I have identified the Naim Uniti 2 as a good replacement for the exisiting Meridian equipment; it has good reviews and appears quite easy to use. My question is what is thought to be the best way to rip, store and stream my music that will work well with the Naim. Should I get a dedicated laptop or perhaps just a storage device to work with my PC. Sorry if I sound a bit dim but the truth is that in these matters I am so please be patient with a retired city banker. I've failed to find a dealer in my area of North Essex/Suffolk who seems to have the requisite knowledge, can anyone help with a recommendation or is there someone on this forum in the business who can assist.
Many thanks for any help

Do you need to have a CD player in your Naim equipment assuming all your media is on a hard drive ? I don't think you will? In which case you could go with a SuperUniti
With regards to your media you need a NAS (Network Attached Storage) which is basically a hard drive that sits on your network which is where your Naim will get it's media from. You can rip to that using the CD player in your PC....you should used FLAC or one o the other lossless file types to do the Naim justice. The NAS stay on all the time so your PC doesn't need to be on. You should get one with a big enough memory so it can be configured to do back up's....if you get a double or quad drive one you can have a mirror back up on the same drive in case the hard drive fails. Decent makes of NAS are QNAP or Synology. You can also put video media on NAS drives as well and stream ripped DVD's to TV's etc.
I'm about to do something similar but I am going to get a Naim network player as I'll be keeping my amp. Good luck!
This dealer might not be too far from you...no affiliation but it's been set up by a guy on AV forums and he seems very helpful. http://hifilounge.co.uk/ I've been meaning to go because he has both Naim and Oppo. There is a Naim dealer in Cambridge but if the service from there other now closed branch is anything to go by I wouldn't go near them.
