Hi, has anyone here got any experience with (vintage particularly) Tannoy Monitors? The ones I'm looking at specifically are Monitor Red's, 15" with the black dust cap.

The HF units have been replaced, I think by the owner. Is this something you would steer clear of? I suppose they have only been replaced because they have been played too loud, or is it common with these old drivers?

They've had the surround replaced, but they all seem to need this at some point.

I've picked up a single Tannoy HPD 315 (12") that needs a new surround for what seems like a fairly reasonable price. Apart from the perishable surrounds, the HPD looks like it's likely a better driver than the earlier versions, especially for home use where 200L cabinets aren't feasible.

Keeping an eye out for another with close-ish serial now to make a pair, I'll re-foam them together.

I'm still on the lookout for another HPD 315 to go with my single one, however I caved and recently bought a pair of Tannoy Devons (HPD 315's) that had been recently-ish reconed by Tannoy. I haven't currently got them in the best room (rather reflective and echoy) but they do sound great, I can understand why they have such a following.

Will post pictures later.
