Sonos SoundBar position dilemma, please advise me what to do
Discussion
Hi all,
Need some advice about positioning a SONOS SoundBar from those with this speaker and maybe having tried various positions for reasons not to dissimilar to my own!
I purchased it without measuring, thinking it would sit nicely in the unit the tv sits on, it doesn't and I'm not able to position it in front of the TV stand as there is no space.
To give you some idea of my predicament, imagine my living room is (approx) 14' x 10' with the TV at one end but in the corner angle 45 degrees and the setee the other end.
The layout is like this due to doors, windows, etc.
Do I fix the SoundBar to;
The wall between the TV and setee,
Vertically in the corner behind the TV,
Or on the back wall above the setee???? So it's effectively above and behind me.
What to position would benefit the most from the sound produced by the SoundBar given the fact i'll need to by he relevant digital optical cable, etc
I'd like to connect it to the TV so whatever position I finally place it, i'll have leads running down the wall, power lead and maybe an optical lead of which will have to be either 2, 3 or 5 + meters in length so as to run along skirting etc.
Regards
Gary

Wallmount the TV with an articulating arm?
Pull out the rack slightly, raise TV on something, preferably still on the rack, then see if Playbar can fit on top of the rack? There is no suggestion on the website to vertically mount the Playbar for obvious reasons.
New rack?
Change room layout?
Measure. Measure. Measure!!

Cheers for the suggestions Digger

But I see what you mean, it is certainly an option but I'm not a huge fan of wall mount TV's in a room like mine. If it were in a central position the I would certainly consider it as preferable choice.

The rack can be fixed anywhere you like in any position unless I'm missing something.

Seriously though, the TV is on a very nice stand with all the usual stuff underneath on, PS3, sky box, etc... So not looking to pay out more to replace a very nice unit.

The articulating arm is a worthy consideration at the moment.
I suppose I'm looking for people who have secured their SoundBar somewhere other than the usual in front if the TV and how they find the sound, better, worse, indifferent!
Thanks again
Gary

Seems a bit extreme to wall mount the TV, 'then' see if the playbar will fit Pull out the rack slightly, raise TV on something, preferably still on the rack, then see if Playbar can fit on top of the rack?

Again, not a choice I would make but I see no reason why it can't be mounted vertically unless you can advise me otherwise, only one speaker will be pointed up

Not possible without sacrificing space or putting the TV against the wall which devides our room and the neighbors so trying to be neighborly too. It'll ruin the feng shui :lol:Digger said:

I know, my Mk1 eyeball and shiny new speaker got the better of me, fail!!!!!

It really wants to go near the TV in a horizontal orientation otherwise you're going to lose any stereo separation andbitsbgoing to sound odd if the TV sound doesn't come from the TV.
I had a vaguely similar dilemma with a centre speaker when I previously had a Plasma screen on a stand in a bay window.
In my situation I made a bracket and shelf that attached to the unused VESA wall mount holes on the back of the TV so the speaker was mounted above the TV.

Had a reply from SONOS to with their recommendations, suffice to say, it needs to go horizontal by the TV, below, infront, on top, so looking to buy a new tv stand now!!!
Nothing's ever simple
Looking at a corner unit with TV bracket so I can place it on top of the unit, but its hard to f'ing one that will fit! The one I like is £870 !!!!!!
How much do you lot pay for a TV stand???
Looking at this one, its poorly advertised as the bracket is not included and is an extra £180!!!!! Seems a bit too expensive to me for e sake of positioning a sound bar

I just spent around £300 on a TV stand with Alphason via www.theplasmacentre.com. A great range of stands for all budgets.
