I am looking into updating my receiver and would like to ask the great collected wisdom of PH for its advice smile

Basically, I have a setup that I bought about 15 years ago.
It consists of
  • Receiver: Pioneer VSX 808 RDS
  • Speakers: B&W DM 303 (2x) and 302 (2x)
  • Center: B&W CC3
  • Sub: B&W ASW 500
Peripherals I use are
  • PS3, mainly for music & blu rays (HDMI)
  • HD digital tv (HDMI)
  • other audio source (optical)
  • TV
The speakers were upgraded as time went by.

Today however, I would like to update the receiver to something more recent, allowing me to use HDMI devices more easily (now, I have a separate switch between the PS3 and TV tuner and the TV for instance).
Secondly, the current receiver is not able to fully use the available audio quality on Blu Rays etc.

So, my question is: what would be a suitable replacement for my A/V receiver?
I am also looking into getting a second hand model, so it shouldn't necessarily be the newest of the newest, although I'm open for all your input!

Cheers!

For instance, would a Pioneer VSX 528 do the trick or would I rather be looking at a 828?

Cheers!

Don't have a fixed amount in my mind, but it would seem silly to buy something that would not be in line with the quality of the other components (i.e. no point in buying a £5k receiver if the difference in sound quality would be limited due to the speakers for instance).

I suppose a couple of 100?

edited to add: the main goal is to add HDMI ins & out(s) and high def audio capability (the current one only has Dolby Digital and DTS)

Cheers!
