Ok, so not exactly the sort of thing top end audiophiles are interested in, but want a small unit in the kitchen that does all three. Plenty of options that do 2/3 and several mini hifi units with separate speakers that do it too, but no small compact unit. Thoughts appreciated

Why are seperater speakers a problem? Not being arsey, genuine question.

Space really, plus unit would be in a corner, internal door to right and external door to left so not much option to put speakers somewhere sensible and cable them, unless they were wireless but probably expensive for a kitchen unit

Very nice indeed, but slight overkill for what I need! Cradle of Filth while cooking and Now Thats What I Call Music 5,849 when kids are about, plus Kerrang in the morning....

Get a Sonos Play 1 it's £169 at the moment and it comes with a free wireless bridge at the moment it's about the size of a large jar
of coffee, and will play wirelessly from your iPhone/iPod-touch, pretty much play any radio station worldwide, and play any stored music on your PC as well.

And it opens you up to system expansion up to 32 rooms wirelessly.

OH! and they sound amazing, but they get better in stereo pairs!

Understood, but if the CD in question is on his iPod/iPhone/iPod-touch or on iTunes then it doesn't matter he can access it through that
also if he takes out a Napster subscription then he has access to over 5,000,000 albums via that..

Also who wants to bring CDs into a Kitchen area, it just clutters the place up...

Kids still use CDs and i'd rather they didnt dick about with my ipod...... All my stuff is in iTunes, all theirs is too so I can burn copies when they scratch the original disks to bits, plus I have an ipod perm in the car so as you say, dont have to cart CDs about... but disks are best for little kids imo.

Again no CD, but I've just acquired one of these and it's faultless:
