Not so much of a choice, as I'm yet to find anything that fits my criteria!

I'm after a speaker to mount under the wall cupboards in the kitchen, so I can play music from my phone/tablet/phablet/laptop/bananaphone to drown out my swearing at the dinner I'm trying to make.

As this house was built in about 400BC there is no power at all to that side of the room so it will need to be battery powered (there's one double socket in the entire room).
It should be wide and short so it hides nicely out of sight. If I can screw it straight onto the underside of the cupboards then all the better, if not then I'll just make a shelf for it.
Needs to take either 'tooth or WiFi from android devices.
A reasonable amount of doof is required, not mental loud or HiFi quality but good enough to warrant not just using the device's own speakers.
Needs to not cost the earth (no more than £150, and frankly £100 is taking the piss somewhat).

This appears to be a completely ungoogleable subject, christ knows I've tried.
Any suggestions?

I think the words 'no' and 'chance' spring to mind... Sorry, you'll find battery powered speakers and even varients with Blue Tooth but not in the form factor you want. Closest I can think of is this from Bose, meets two out of four... Too much tech to hit that price point.

A not extensive quick google gets you this ugly mutha for about a hundred.

But from the same shop, I think the Logitech UE and Jawbone stuff is a little more decor friendly.

Anything will eat batteries, so you'll need something rechargeable.

Where's VEX?

I recall he posted up about a start-up idea where this tiny pyramid shaped box could be added to any existing speaker and would power the speaker from it's internal (rechargeable) battery, and worked from Bluetooth. IIRC, the start-up idea, on one of those sites where people pledge money, was massively over-subscribed, so the guy who'd come up with the idea could go into production.
