Old stacked HiFi deck
Discussion
I recently bought an old fashioned stack of HI-Fi equipment contained in a cabinet from a charity shop and am about to start putting it together again. It's got good stuff, Pioneer PL-640 turntable, PD-7010 CD player, Denon DRA426 Receiver and a Denon Cassette deck. There doesn't appear to be an amp, but there is a Pioneer DT540 digital timer.
My questions are:
What's the timer for and does it double-up for an amp?
Is the receiver an amp as well?
If the answers above are NO, what sort of amp should I be looking for?
I'm not a great hi-fi buff (you can tell), but just want something to play all my old music on. To give an idea of my budget I paid £30 for the stuff above.

Firstly I'll start by admitting that I'm no expert with this sort of stuff, but I'm bored today as it's too cold outside for me to be doing the usual car washing and pottering about so I had a bit of time to Google.
)I'm assuming it has inputs for phono etc. and speaker attachments? If so then yes, it's an amp as well.
Sorry about that.

AFAIA this does exactly what it says on the box: it's a timer to run various audio devices at a set time.Gregorypeck said:

It appears to be from the info I've found (only found pictures of a 425 which is 120V, but I reckon close enough.

Excellent price. Good luck with it and, just to upset you, I took some speakers of a similar vintage to the tip last week. Along with a complete Sony separates system as I was just getting fed up with it collecting dust. Replaced it with one of those modern bits of tat which will convert to mp3 via a USB port I'm not a great hi-fi buff (you can tell), but just want something to play all my old music on. Don't worry about it. I have a pair of Sony speakers languishing in the loft, which have been there since 2002. May need some decent cables though.
