Fuba sat receiver
Discussion
No experience with satellite receivers. Got a Tivusat Italian channel box made by Fuba last year. The remote has just stopped working though, changed batteries but no luck. Reset the box and it worked for a minute then stopped again so thinking it must be the box? Supplier doesn't know if there is a master reset and as it is just out of warrantee suggest I buy a new one for £175!
So can anybody suggest a fix? If it is going to mean a new box can I just buy a cheap one and put the decoder card in it? It works off Hotbird but not sure if this would work or not. Thanks

Know nothing about these boxes unfortunately, but it does seem like it's got a problem.
As for another non box, you'll probably also need a CAM (conditional access module) to allow the card to be read. Standard boxes usually don't come with these though have the slots ready for them. The CAM actually forms part of the encryption process.
I have a couple of old cams here which *may* work with your card, and if they would then you're more than welcome to one, though I'm not 100% sure if they would.
Off back to Google some more...

Looked a bit more into this package and a lot of the stuff is FTA on it.
I've checked on one of my boxes and the encrypted ones seem to be mostly in NAGRAVISION.
If you do decide that another decoder is the way to go then, providing it has a CAM slot, I have an old Dragon CAM here which should hopefully sort your needs out.
Just put your card in the CAM, CAM in the box, and "theoretically" it should be good to go.

Thanks very much for your help, although I have to confess to only understanding a portion of it! If I got it right I will need a CAM to allow the card to be read unless I find a box with a slot which will read the card? I'm thinking it will be easier but a lot more costly to go back to the original supplier, if the box can't be reset or repaired, and just buy new. I had a quick look and a box comes out at about £150 so not too far away from the dedicated box price.
I can plug these things up and get them working, but it's a complete minefield when you delve into them!
Thanks again for the help and generous offer.

A box with a card slot will only work if the software in the box will read your card. Most, like your decoder, are designed for a specific card and will decode the encryption accordingly.
That's why I suggested getting a decoder with a CAM slot in it. The CAM slots into the box and emulates the original decoder. Your card then fits into the CAM and thinks it's in an original decoder box.
Hope that's a bit clearer?
