I have a pair of Wharfedale 9.1's and am looking to play music through my iphone. What do I need to go about this?

An Amp with a dock for my iphone? (like the fatman idock)

or do I need an ordinary amp and I can just use an audio in cable to link the iphone and amp?

Lots of choices

1) as above
2) an amp with a lead to the headphone out of the phone or a bluetooth gizmo.
3) an amp with airplay or sonos

If you are going down the using a lead option you may be better of getting an amp with a usb input as the digital to analogue converter in the amp will be much better than the one in the iphone.

If you are just using the phone for music the sonos ticks all the boxes, wireless can be hidden away but it does need to be connected to your broadband router (as will any airplay device)
If you want the option of adding other sources cd player record deck telly etc then you need an amp.

The Fatman stuff is over rated imho.

I would buy a dedicated dock such as this and an amplifier of your choice.

The Wharfedale 9.1s are really good speakers, and will benefit from a decent amp and source.

I use this bluetooth receiver connected to my amp:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0057BAB60

Not noticed any significant drop in sound quality and was very easy to setup and use. And it's only £25!

Have a look at a Lepai TA2020+.

It's about the size of 2 fag packets and costs about 25 quid.

Add some cable to your Wharfedales and a line out dock for your iphone (£4) and you're sorted.

The Lepai gets some amazing reviews, it's a fab little amp.

I'd look at a wired dock as Bluetooth will just degrade the sound further. Nice speakers, by the way.
