Looking at buying one of these, either 50 or 55in to replace my current Panasonic 42in PX70.

Any comments?

Have read about the fan noise and wonder if a GT60 might be better as it doesn't have fans? My room is big (and 13ft high ceilings) though and the noise may be lost in the space with a bit of luck.

Fancy one with them being the last of the Panasonic plasmas.

So long as you have a decent soundbar or 5.1 sound system the fans won't be an issue. the picture with a little tuning is superb, the build quality is amazing and you will not be sorry with your purchase. I have a new GT 50 inch plasma and now it has settled down the image is outstanding. With a decent blu-ray player you may only ever go out for food to work and to enjoy a decent drive......

The Fan issue was sorted by a running production change about 4 months ago, so as long as the serial number
Starts FE-352#### or later iirc then it won't be a problem, if it has a lower number than that Panasonic will do
An upgrade in home.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably go for the 55in once I've measured up my space. Don' think I can fit anything bigger.

I'm torn between the GT and the VT too. Right now the 55 VT is swinging it but with the GT at just over £1000 it's hard not to look at that spare cash. Both are the best Plasmas for their size.

As Panasonic are ending plasma R&D I'm leaning towards the VT and doing it properly.

I'm thinking the same thing. It's tricky to know when they'll really drop off though as the OLED ones won't be released until Q2 next year. I'm hoping they'll drop in late Jan again.

I'm a serial researcher so I'm not even going to worry about OLED for now - would rather have highly developed technology from yesterday than chase the new stuff.

My PX70 has done me proud for over 5 years or so, so then in 5 years I could think about changing again... It's either that or wait for the rumoured Apple TV, but that could be years, and we don't know what the screen itself will be like!

Just hope the 55 will fit nicely smile

I believe there will be no more Panasonic Plasma's arriving in the UK so buy on enow or live to regret it......OLED may well be just a stepping stone and I am unimpressed with what I have seen for £5,000 regarding 4K. Better technology lies ahead and like 3G on mobile phones it will soon be overtaken, maybe within 2 years. Go and buy a panasonic Plasma and enjoy yourself.

Panasonic are unlikely to launch OLED in 2014, as production yeilds of the prototype panels are very low
LG/Samsung are currently running at 30% so they're having real problems as well. I think there's a lot of
development for OLED yet before it's many reported issues are sorted...

I've been selling GT/VT/ZTs steadily since the pull out was announced, and stocks at Panasonic are getting quite low, with the ST range now gone....

I'm still trying to persuade my girlfriend we need a new 55VT from you! I am still interested.

Must sell my 50VT though.

I bought a 50GT60 yesterday which will replace the 42GT30 that I have in the living room. That will now go into the bedroom on the wall. As others have said you cannot go wrong with a Panasonic plasma and they are getting low on supply. Only downside is the poor sound but that was remidied with the JBL SB400 soundbar I bought with it.

I notice the Panasonic 5 year warranty is only valid on in-store purchases so I have to wait till I'm back in the UK next week, plus I need to measure up...

Which store are you at by the way?

For those who've bought the P50GT60 could you measure the box please? I need to see if it'll fit in the Forester.

It should do, I just picked mine up a hour ago in a Freelander.
