Ipod to AV reciever

Has anyone used one of these (or similar) to connect up an iPod to an AV reciever?

It's the wifes birthday party soon and I want to play music via the AV amp so this would seem the logical choice. However, not sure if it will output music (via itunes or spotify) or if it only outputs video sources?

Any alternatives that I should consider? Reciever has HDMI and Component in, but no USB.

I recently connected to the Aux on my stereo but I did this via the headphone output on the Ipod. it worked really well and the cable was £2.50 from my local TV shop. The same principle should work in your case.
