Hi all,

We currently have Sky HD and brilliant though it is I don't think we need it, so what will the Sky box provide when the subscription is cancelled? Terrestrial programs I assume, will it still record from those channels?

Will also have Netflix and Eurosport player.

Cheers
Ed.

You should be able to view the Freeview channels, but you won't be able to record. Also you'll lose any recorded programmes on the box.

Do you know if this will allow me to record using it?

Sky must realize that most TV will be 'On Demand' before long.

Is that any different from the card he has in the box anyway. I thought your viewing card when cancelled became the equivalent of a Sky Freesat card.

I cancelled my SkyHD recently - box still works for all freeview channels, including the free-to-air HD ones.

Interesting to note about Freesat. We are also looking to bin it as we just don't get enough use out of the paid for channels, although I know I will lament the loss of Sky Sports.

If you are outside of minimum ocntract I am told that if you call to cancel they will negotiate a discounted deal to retain you for a further year. Worth considering as a halfway house?

I assume all the recording functions stop working?

Yes - can't record, and any existing recordings are lost ( probably still on the disk but inaccessible )

This will only happen when everybody has "superfast" broadband and the infrastructure can cope. I think I'll be pushing up daisies before that happens.

Within 10 years I reckon.

Not sure that's true simply because I buy them to strip them and when connected up I can play the recordings ?

they are encrypted so the only way you can play them is via the skybox

I don't think this has changed from a few years back:

As said above you will need to buy a Freesat card from Sky to use it as a Freesat box but that is a one of purchase.

To record you will need a Sky+ subscription which is £10/mo. This doesn't give you any channels, just the ability to record. This is of course free with any normal Sky subscription.

Just to add:

You cannot watch any recorded programmes without a subscription to that channel. I assume that means you could watch recordings of the channels available on Freesat with a Freesat card but you can only watch recordings of Sky channels with a proper Sky subscription. I know this is the case because my Sky subscription ended halfway through my watching a recorded program and it just stopped.
