Spent half an hour the other day with sky online advisor to ask that if i bought a second hand sky+box and viewing card would i be able to reccrd and rewind freeview channels - i asked multiple times and was assured it would work without subscription no problem as long as the second hand card was paired to the box and I was given a number to contact to ensure it was the correct car. So i go out and buy a second hand sky+ box today and call up to ensure its the right card only to be told that record and rewind will only work if subscribed to multiroom...

Probably been asked 100 times before, but I am stuggling to understand why sky stop people from using the record and rewind facilities on sky+ boxes when using their boxes to view freesat channels only.
I can understand it blocking the subsribed channels etc but not the facilites of the box, is there no way of enabling the record facily on the box ?
surely it only records the incoming signal onto the hard drive??
I am not paying for multiroom etc at £11 per month extra when i only want to view the free channels anyway...

The online advisor was (unsurprisingly) WRONG. You will NOT be able to use any Sky+ features without an active subscription of some sort. That can be £10 for a Sky+ sub or £11.25 for Multiroom.

yes, thats why I asked her several times to confirm it would work, i originally thought it wasnt possible. might end up going multiroom or just getting a freesat box with hard drive for the bathroom..

Do you spend that long in the bath or do you have bowel problems?

sorry, but the answer is no on both counts.
The question may have been better directed to my wife who spends a ridiculous ammount of time in the bath.

I would hate to think what the high humidity do to whatever box you get.

Why not just get one of the many freeview recorder boxes? They do exactly what you want. Sky didn't invent the + boxes, they just nicked the idea and rebranded it. The generic term is PVR or sometimes now just TV Recorder. The humax boxes are very good.

yes, thats what I was just looking at this morning, probably will go with a humax box. But will they work simply connected to the sky dish or do they need a different LNB or receiver position?

no dish at all, you connect them to a TV aerial, simple as that.

sorry, misunderstood, I meant a freesat humax box, we have very bad digital signal where we are so dish is usually best here.

A Freesat box will work on a Sky dish and LNB.
