Soap Opera Effect & Motion blur - Panasonic ET60 and ST60.
Discussion
Demoing these two screens tomorrow (50" ST60 and 47" ET60) as I couldn't go for one without seeing them back to back.
Has anyone got experience of the two screens and how prone they are to suffering from SOE? I can't stand it so this is a big concern for me.
Also, keen to hear experiences on motion blur from the two of them. My sports viewing is limited to F1 (on Sky HD) but this is important to me that it doesn't suffer any blur.

I've just bought a 42" st60 and was shocked by the 'soap opera effect' the first time I watched a film. I didn't understand what the problem was but a quick google explained all. I now use the 'true cinema' mode with the Intelligent Frame Creation switched off and all is well again.
The problem only seems to occur with films (or dramas shot like a movie) but I couldn't really say what the frame creation adds to 'live' tv. I'm actually watching the Autosport awards on Sky F1 right now but until the racing starts I can't offer a back to back comparison. Overall so far I'm very happy with it.

The soap opera effect (or 'SOE') is caused because the frame creation/motionflow/insert manufacturer's term here smooths the effect of 24 frame 'film' based content so subconsciously it no longer 'looks' like film. Therefore it seems to take on a quality more like that of a TV drama or soap opera; it can even have a strange effect where motion seems to speed up.
I've had a few projectors with it and always end up turning it off (though possibly due to 99% of content I view on the projector is 24 frame film based).

Well, managed to locate a 50" ST60 after LOTS of phone calls. Went a viewed that and the 47" ET60 back to back and it was a no brainer. We went for the ST60
One thing that's surprised me though, going from my 37" Panasonic PX80 to this, I thought it would look massive on the wall but it doesn't. Glad I didn't go for anything smaller!
