Has anyone tried the THX app to "calibrate" their TV? I have the App but have not tried it yet because I do not have the cable. I will buy one if it is worth giving it a go

THX tune-up™ allows you to properly adjust your TV, projector and speakers, helping you get the most out of your entertainment system.
And some info
THX tune-up features custom video test patterns, carefully selected photos and tutorials to help you adjust and confirm the best picture settings on your display based on your room lighting. Using special test sounds, THX tune-up also lets you check your external speakers to make sure they are working in phase and are connected properly for 2-channel stereo or 5.1 surround sound systems.

It is a good starting point and will help more than just doing things by eye and it is cheaper than ordering a calibration DVD.

Can't get much cheaper than this (excellent) free downloadable calibration disc:Chris

It is HD, even though you burn it to a blank DVD disc (just read the first post rather than have me type it all out). I use the 'basic patterns' on this disc for all my set up prior to running a full calibration and it's the foundation of a good calibration, that even on it's own will get most displays most of the way there (and enough for all but the more fussy viewers like me
