Hi,

Looking at the options for running cables to rear surround speakers and also to the sub.

Amp is to be situated in the white cupboard below the TV, sub will be between the two speakers and the surround speakers wall mounted to the relevant heights and positioned for people sitting on the sofa opposite the TV.

The wall the TV is on is going to be a new stud wall and the floor and other walls are concrete/brick.

The wall where the sub is going to go (and right surround sound) is likely to be dot and dab (chimney is going to be removed).

Option 1: Run cable up through the new stud wall and through all the joists (long and arduous)

Option 2: Dig a channel in the concrete floor and run cables that way then up the walls to the relevant height)

The floor is going to be re-screeded so this might be a better option.

Has any one had any experience of terminating 'subwoofer' cable (is it RCA?) into wall plates or should I just use ready made cable and use a brush plate?

Cheers,
Phill

I went for a 3rd option; run the cable round the outside of the house in 15mm round trunking. Worked for me.

I just took an angle-grinder to the wall, used QED micro cable and then filled it.

Thanks Both

Nick - did you run behind the skirting boards?

We have a suspended floor luckily. If we hadn't I would have just carried on grinding round the wall. It made a lot of dust but you can't see it at all now, post filling and sanding.

Your picture looks to show a wood floor on top of the new screed?

If so, when they fit the floor and before the skirting goes on just get them to put the cable in the expansion gap round the edge.

No drilling, no chasing, no trunking.

We're going tor a flooring system similar to kardean which will be glued directly to the new screed. Looks like I have a couple of options to explore!
