Bathroom Audio
Discussion
So we are fitting a new bathroom at the moment. Will be putting in a fresh ceiling because we have taken a wall out etc and getting it all to match up will be a PITA.
So while i am doing this i have all new flush mounted lights going in and a new extractor system as well.
Thought struck me earlier i could also place a couple of water proof speakers up there as well for bathroom audio, wife likes to chillax in the bath with tunes so as a surprise i thought i could get this all ordered and fitted while she is out for the day when i sling the ceiling up.
Am on a fairly low budget though (less that £200) and have already found sufficient speakers but then it is a case of what to connect to them as it will need to be in the bathroom to be controlled. Also preferably it would be network connected so that it can stream audio from the soon to be implemented media server. Will need to have a remote too, appreciate this is unlikely to be waterproof but it doesn't really need to be.
Or do we think i should scrap the speakers in the ceiling and wallmount something like a squeezebox?
Apologies if this should be in home and garden but it kind of boarders both sub forums....

Loads of options available to you, but budget may be an issue.
I have bathroom speakers, but the speaker cable routes out to a separate cupboard in another room to house the amp. This is likely to be the case unless you have active speakers and I'm not sure what is possible/permissible under building regs (AC mains power in bathrooms).
The advantage of the passive approach is that you can put a variety of things in the cupboard to power the speakers and use a smartphone to control the music and volume. At the expensive end you could use a Sonos Connect Amp. Or if you have apple devices you could use an airport express to stream the music to a cheap amp.
All of the above are neat looking solutions, but will ultimately cost more than a waterproof bluetooth speaker or radio.
