Hi,

My first post in here so please forgive me if I have not explained this very well audio is not my thing.
We recently moved into our house it is in need of renovation our first big job is to knock through the separate WC/bathroom and make one new family bathroom.

The new room is 1.7m x 2.4m and my plan is to install a Sonos connect amp in the loft and feed this to two ceiling mounted waterproof speakers, this is where I have a few questions.

For a room this size is two speakers ok or does it only need one?

I have read on here that Monitor Audio are good ceiling speakers however when I search I line I am struggling to find a waterproof version if anyone know the model number or where I can buy them from can you please let me know.

If there is any one who has done this install before are there any tips?

I assume (properly incorrectly) that its quite straight forward, run speaker wire to speakers from Connect amp and then plug in Connect amp

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I can't answer your question, but my advice would be to pm (personal message) a PH member called VEX. He is a hifi install guy and does a lot of work with Sonos equipment. He's always good for a little advice and might be able to help a little on price.

pretty sure you are looking at wired speakers and a sonos connect amp - which will be quite expensive. Sonos do not do ceiling speakers so any solution will need to be 'wired' to a sonos amp - it would be nice if they effectoively did a Sonos Play1 in ceiling format - that would be much easier concept.

How so? Running speaker cables to a ceiling is extremely simple, installing new 230v mains feeds to ceilings is not, well certainly not for average Joe, that requires an electrician or someone very confident; much, much smaller market. Sonos are all about simple retro fit so all their speakers are designed to be more or less plug and play, the OP is asking questions the CI industry is there to answer or provide services for.

OP, in answer to you question you would get away with a single, duel tweeter (stereo) speaker but two speakers will be better. An awful lot of speakers are able to be used in wet or humid environments, as well and MA have a look at B&W's 300 series, they're well priced and perfectly good for most peoples requirements. One thing you need to consider is the Connect-Amps connection to the Sonos system, it either needs to see the mesh (Sonos wireless network, not to be confused with your Wi-Fi network) or have a hard wired, Ethernet connection to your router. If you're pulling the house apart this should all be easy but if you're planning to add several Sonos zones best you plan ahead with some advice. Happy to help if you need as I'm sure Vex will as well.

It's not rocket science just a PITA if you make a mistake.

My plan given time is to renovate the entire house so pulling cables will be possible however for the bathroom initially my plan is to connect the amp to the existing Sonos mesh as I currently have a play 1 in the kitchen.

The bridge is located in the hall at the bottom of the stairs and I hope it should be able to communicate with amp which will be in the loft approx. 4m away with only one plasterboard ceiling in between. I assume that this will be ok?

Going forward I plan to add more zones for lounge - play bar possibly through reading on hear it may not be the way forward, play 1's, Dining Room - play 3, bedroom play 1 or 3

I will take a look at the other speakers as I need to decide on them soon so that the I can cut the holes.

Thank you all for you help
