Bose QC3 or Bowers & Wilkins P5 or something else?
Discussion
I was recently in this situation and went for these - http://www.richersounds.com/product/all-headphones...
They get GREAT reviews and the sound quality is in a different league to other similarly priced N/C headphones.....

Definitely go with the Bose. I have the QC15 and the B&W P5. The P5 definitely sounds nicer if you are sitting at home or for general non-air travel, but the noise cancelling on the QC3/15 is so good on the plane that it makes them perfect for that use.
Bose get a lot of stick for the overpriced products that they produce, but the noise cancelling headphones are one thing that they seem to do better than anyone else.
I never use them when not on a plane though!

I use Sennheiser mmx 450-x - Blutooth, noise cancelling, with microphone for calls, and music track and volume control. oh and foldable. the microphone can also be used in 'passthru' mode which means you touch the earpiece and it acts aa a microphone so you can hear conversations without actually taking off the headphones. Also removable and replaceable battery just in case you want extra running time. alternatively they can be used wired if the battery runs out.
use them daily, morning and night on my tube commute.
They seem to be well built with metal headband. the only problem I have found (and its not really a problem) is they appear to be sensitive to the charger you use. As they are Mini USB its tempting to use a none sennheiser charger. Some are ok, but others don't seem to charge the battery.
however I will freely admit the noise cancelling isn't as good as the Bose, but the other stuff more than makes up
There is also the pricier but bigger over ear 550's
