Hi all, just bought my first house (wahoo!) And looking to treat myself to a new tv. Really fancied a 4k however the high prices put me off, until now. Samsung Have just released this new tv, and im wondering what peoples oppinions were of it?

I've not seen that particular TV, howerer I really don't think you can go wrong with a samsung. They make great TV's at a reasonable price.

Why would anyone buy a 40 inch 4k telly??

And is it a REC2020 panel?

you really need to be viewing a 60+" screen for 4k to be worth even thinking about.

Our Samsung 4k arrived today. It's more than I'd have paid for a tv but that's another story.

Suffice to say it is good. Very good. I doubt we will use the full 4k resolution any time soon although I believe there are YouTube clips at that level.

Picture quality is stunning (compared to our 1st gen HD TV).
User interface, smart tv features are brilliant. Easy to use and set up.
Integral camera is good for skype.
Comes with two remotes, a conventional one and a point and shoot thingy. Like a laser pen on the screen. Best way I can describe it. Both work well, really like the pointy one though.
Sound is good and syncs well with our home cinema (also samsung).
USB. 3 connects well with an external hard drive. We are watching 24 from it just now.

Lots of clever little features on this set, thoroughly delighted with it.

Was it worth the price we paid? Not sure on that just now but it was the Mrs who bought it so happy days!

I have a ue55hu7500 and its ace. Plenty of full 4k clips on youtube you can download to a memory stick which shows its potential

Only issues is I specifically asked the staff in currys if it came with a 5yr warranty, they told me it did. However after delivery it turns out it does not. Sill trying to sort the issue out Currys. I won't rest until they honour what they said.

It sort of begs the question as to why you bought a 4k tv when you can only watch a couple of clips off youtube?

perhaps i should have held on and saved myself £800 , no 3d is the main omission from the 7500

Not that bothered about 3D TBH. I was in the market for a bigger TV anyway, its not huge amounts more to upgrade to this 4k TV now... just wondering how good normal SD and HD content will look on these....

I think HD freest broadcasts do look visibly better, not sure if the TV you mention has the same upscaling tech though.

None whatsoever. It came up on the HUKD(Hot UK Deals) website. Clicky

There is mention on the link that other/s have used the site before, so might be worth perusing.

Re content at 4k, will the next generation video consoles do 4k? If so I guess that's a good reason for a lot of people to get them, plus digital in the cinemas is 4k so I'd assume films will start to become available at that resolution.

Personally though I'll never sit near enough to a TV to make it worth while, I can't even see the difference between 720 and 1080 on mine unless I sit closer than I find comfortable which matches the claims of this graph.

This is why they are apparently gearing up for 84" UHD screens.

We've just got the HU6900 on display, it's clearly been built to a price, on normal (1080i) HD broadcasts it looks very good, On 1080p Bluray it looks superb, but you do see DSE on sports and on any light background stuff, it has poor viewing angles, i'm going to put it in the Dem room next week to see what it's like in normal room light conditions (i'll report back when done).

But, i've just put Sharps new 60UQ10 Quattron Pro alongside the HU6900 and it truly batters it! despite the Sharp not being a 4k set!when showing 4k on either set the Sharp looks as detailed (the sharp is the only 1080p set that can display 4k thanks to it's Quattron trickery)

Explanation here

http://www.sharp.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/gb/hs.xsl/-/ht...

When you factor in the build quality (Sharp has full aluminium chassis) the Sharp has 3D, THX certification much better on board sound, 800hz processing as well as a five year factory warranty and it's 5 inches bigger!

Samsung £1499
Sharp £1799

No Brainer afaic
