Phillips plasma is on the blink. All I really want is a good screen since Smart applications go via tivo or xbox. 3d not required. Sound goes via a Sony dav lf1 that I am still very happy with.

Is there a great display only TV? Say 42 to 50 inch.

No sound and no tuner sounds like a monitor to me. You can get large monitors (used in conference halls, etc.) but they probably cost more than a TV.

I needed a TV in a hurry last week and made a "no time to research properly - spur of the moment" purchase. I ended up with a 50" Panasonic TX-50A400B from Tesco for £480.

The new TV is just used as a display, it replaced an older Samsung 40" TV in my existing AV setup so I retained my AV amp, my freeview recorder, AppleTV and Roku, I just unplugged the HDMI cable, swapped TVs and plugged the HDMI cable in.

In terms of features the Panasonic is a very basic TV, it has just two HDMI ports (which is one more than I need), a freeview tuner and so few smart features as to make me wonder why they bothered with the Ethernet port, but this means the money has been spent on the panel and not features I'm not using. It has a pleasantly thin bezel and while it's doesn't look as good as my Mate's £2,500 4K Samsung the picture quality is surprisingly good for the price, better than it's price would suggest.

I'm sure there are better quality TVs out there, and there are definitely better featured TVs out there, but if you're looking a good TV just to use as a display then I can recommend the Panasonic TX-50A400B (the smaller size versions are even cheaper, 42" is £379, 39" is £328, 32" is £288)
