With the introduction of the new HDMI 2 standard on it's way (a year maybe??) would it be better to wait until then to buy a 4K sink (TV, Projector etc), that will be able to receive 4K at 60fps in greater colour depth, or take the plunge now, and hope that early 4K adopters don't get stung like early HD (720p) adopters did?

HDMI2 is available now, it, HDCP2.2 that's the problem. As the industry hasn't settled an a standard you take your chances if you're buying a 4k screen for 4k, however most 4k screens are generally the better screens on the market with HD content so better to think of them as high end TVs rather than dedicated for 4k playback.

Apologies for my incorrect terminology. Any suggestions when HDCP2.2 will arrive? If it is likely within the next 3-6 months, then I will be in a position to wait. Any longer and the itch may need scratching sooner.

It's a bit clear, the standard is to my knowledge firmed up and Onkyo have an AV receiver with 2.2 but there seems to be some consensus that general release won't be until the Autumn. It's a new chip so you can't firmware update your device and these chip manufacturers are few and far between. Even so one can't assume the big TV brands will immediately make all TVs available with 2.2 chips, so it could be a longer wait. If you need a new TV ignore 4k and buy the best telly you're prepared to shell out for. General access to 4k content is probably still a long way off from the reports I've had, just a big conversation subject just now.

Thanks for the advice. It did concern me that I'd end up spending a fortune on 4K "ready" stuff now, and regret it a year or so down the line, when the gear with the new chip inside arrives.

Just realised it looks like I've contradicted myself. The HDCP2.2 'standard' is (I believe) finalised but there is no 'standard' for 4k content. 50/60/100/120 frames per second are all tabled as well as a whole host of colour depths. Obviously the satellite companies will need to work with something they can broadcast and streaming can't hit the mass market until everyone has 50mb+ broadband and compatible devices.
