Thinking of the 55inch KD-55X9005B? Anyone have exprience of these? Will I get screwed on the 4k format?

They are a bit chunky (wide); with the inbuilt speakers firing to the front - but I'm not allowed to rip the room apart this time so looking for best sound / picture quality out the box (will also run a wireless sub).

Source will be Sky HD via Xbox1 and Internet.

Room layout means its going into a corner, wall mounted viewing distance between 14 - 17ft

I'm changing from a Pioneer 42" Kuro / BOSE Lifestyle 48 set-up. How impressed / depressed will I be with the Sony. I accept that loosing the surround is a bit of a compromise; but Pioneer / BOSE is moving into my man cave so not a total loss.

Wife has catagorically ruled out sound bar / surround sound solution for lounge.

Yes they are wide but don't look bad at all, if you have the space. The sound is the best I've ever heard from built-in flat screen TV speakers - of course it's stereo, so I still have Bose for surround via an AV amp. Sky HD upscaled is stunningly good, much better than my previous plasma. The passive 3D is a gimmick but works as well as any, and can be quite fun.

Yesterday I went to a 4K/1080p tv shootout organised by HDTVTEST.CO.UK. The 4K TV's were all 65", 2 x Samsung, 1 flat and 1 curved; the Sony 9005b and Panasonic AX802. The 1080P sets were the 55inch LG OLED and the 60" Panasonic ZT plasma.

The outcome was that the 2 1080p sets were way better than the 4K's. It seems contrast ratio is way more important than 4k resolution. We did get to see native 4K video.

Of the 4K sets the Panasonic AX802 was judged the best and the curved Samsung the worst, but the OLED and the plasma were better. The Plasma coming out top although I preferred the OLED even though its resolution dropped on images containing fast motion/panning shots.

Is the shootout going to be on the website?

I've now got a 4k set (samsung 7500) as well as my ZT and there really is no contest - the ZT is in a class of its own.
