I'm looking for a cheap 50'' telly for the digs two people buying with a limit of £400 we must be able to get it before the World Cup starts.
The best I have found in budget is

We can't have a delivery at work or at the digs so it must be a collection any ideas?
When we leave the digs ownership will be a heads or tails affair.

Don't think you'll beat that from a reputable source

Don't buy a cheap no brand TV - you can get a reasonable LG or Panasonic with that budget if you shop around. Might be a plasma or not full HD BUT still far better than a dirt cheap one like that.

Personally I'd go for this 46" Sharp but, If you really need the extra 4 inches, I would go even cheaper and get this with a 5 year guarantee - 50" "E-Motion"

It's been a while since I looked at TV prices.
I had no idea they were that cheap!

But, are the truly cheap ones actually terrible?
I mean real terrible, regret buying it terrible?

I wouldn't go with a cheap brand either. Richer Sounds are great and they price match or beat the price of anywhere else. 50" Panasonic Viera: £479

Aparrently has some serious backlight bleed issues though as do most cheap non branded sets!

We got an excellent Panasonic HD ready 5* What Hi-Fi rated 50" for £379 from Amazon (The model number escapes me as it is round in our café) they often have the best deals.

Best bet is to check someone like What Hi-Fi or one of the many other reputable reviewers for their best rated cheap 50" tvs take note of model numbers and have a good look around smile

My local B&M bargains are currently selling 55" Sharp Aquos TVs for £450. Maybe worth a look in if you have one local?

This is a belter, as good as an LCD at £1000 and absolutely stunning value.

I bought this and it's excellent. It may be 720p but the high contrast ratio of a plasma is more important than resolution. Just watching Chile V Australia on ITV HD and it's way better than any LCD at the price.

Available as a refurb from Panasonic's ebay outlet for £330.

I have just bought a Sony W905 LCD, their flagship 1080 panel, and my 10 year old Panny 720p panel gives it a good run for its money, and the Pioneer Kuro it has replaced was in a different league.
Overall LCD is pretty st, bit like VHS and Beta all over again.

That Panny plasma is a bargain, probably the best TV bargain of all time.
